Our objective is to create a warm, welcoming St. Alphonsus campus. Please notice, every St. Alphonsus entry is accented with an extension of our gardens. As our parishioners, students, and visitors enter our facilities we hope they feel the presence of our Lord by being touched with our beautiful gardens.
We design, plant, and maintain all of the St. Alphonsus Memorial flower, containers, trees, and shrub gardens. Larger tree planting projects and cutting maintenance is performed by landscape service contractors. You certainly do not have to be an experienced gardener to be a part of our ministry. If you enjoy the outdoors and some light physical activity our ministry may be the right place for you. Typically, we meet Monday evenings at 5:30 PM and work until dark. Occasionally we will gather throughout the planting season for a special project such as planting annual flower beds or seasonal changes to our container gardening .This ministry also offers unique opportunites for participation in community service projects for students from St Alphonsus school and throughout the local community.
One of the neat things about our ministry is that we begin our activities in the spring as we emerge from hibernating indoors for the winter. Our northern Illinois summers are stunning! Most of our garden activities are complete by early to mid-October. So, just as we begin to get tired of gardening the season is over... until next spring when the flowers emerge again.
