Protecting God's Children: Virtus Training, Code of Conduct, CANT'S and Background ChecksIf you are 18 or older and your ministry or group interacts or serves children (under age 18) then you MUST complete the safety procedures for "Protecting God's Children". Others on church porperty may need to complete this also.

d.mckavanagh@saintalphonsus.comVIRTUS: Is the first step in "Protecting God's Children". You attend a VIRTUS training class once (not yearly). It is a 3 hour class and you must sign up for the class before you can volunteer.
To find a class, please visit: www.virtus.org and you can register for a class.

Background Check: Begin at: www.archchicago.org. Click on Protecting Children; when you put the cursor on Protecting Children, there is a drop down box and you need to click on Office for the Protection of Children and Youth.
Then click on Compliance for Clergy, Employees, and Volunteers (left hand side of the screen) (Criminal Background check/eappsNirtus, Etc.).
There you will find information about background checks, CANTS form and Code of Conduct. When you click on background check (eapps), there is a place for first-time users to click in order to create a user ID and password.
Then proceed to fill out the information needed and hit "Submit."

- Adult Faith Formation: Committee meets several times a year to plan, implement and evaluate programs designed to enhance faith development. Parish Office 255-7452 - Click HERE
- Altar Server: FAMILIES (including parents & siblings) - Boys and girls - 3rd grade through High School assist the celebrant at the altar during Mass. This is a litugical ministry. Contact Fr. Joe Le for training - Click HERE
- Art & Environment: Create and care for the environment in the worship space, maintain plants, design floral arrangements and choose seasonal décor. Contact Parish Office, 255-7452
- Athletic Association: Provides a forum for interscholastic competition that stresses sportsmanship, fair play, and positive self-esteem. Contact St. Alphonsus School, 255-5538 - Click HERE
- Baptism Preparation: Couples prepare parents of children to be baptized at St. Alphonsus Liguori. - Baptism Interest forms are HERE - please complete and send to the Parish. Parish Office 255-7452 - Click HERE
- Baptisms are the 1st Sunday of the month during the 11am Mass or the 3rd Sunday of the month at 12:30. Please complete a baptism inquiry form and Doreen Kelly, Pastoral Associate, will contact you to discuss & confirm the baptism - Click HERE
- Bereavement: Meet with the family prior to the funeral to plan the funeral Mass readings, music and other necessary arrangements. Parish Office 847-255-7452
- Development Committee: A group of parishioners that analyze different fundraising efforts for the Parish and its effectiveness. Parish Office 255-7452
- Eucharistic Ministers: Distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to fellow Catholics during the Mass. Parish Office 255-7452 - Click HERE
- Evangelization: Work with parishioners and ministries to grow in deeper holiness and make Catholic evangelization the primary force of every encounter. Parish Office 255-7452
- Religious Education: Grades K-5th grade: Our children receive religious formation and preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Please join us. Susan Panek, 255-9490 - Click HERE
- Religious Education: Grades 6th-8th Grade: Work with parents, to help Parish teens grow in their Catholic faith and deepen their relationship with God. Students are prepared for the sacrament of Confirmation. Anne Balzanto, 255-9490 - Click HERE
- Finance Committee: Oversees the financial health of the Parish to ensure fiscal responsibility with our financial resources. Jeff Huff and John Balzanto, 255-7452 Click HERE
- Food Pantry: Provide food and other home supplies, as available, for the working poor or those temporarily in need. 1st and 3rd weekends of the month 10am - 12am. Residence and identifications requirements exist. Click HERE
- FORMED: This committee coordinates to bring "Catholic Netflix" to your electronic devices. So you can receive, for FREE, Catholic entertainment and faith outside of the classroom, in your own home, car or trip! Parishioners can call the Parish Office for the code 847-255-7452
- Friends of Bill W.: Provide support through alcoholic anonymous. Meeting room C every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
- Garden Design & Landscape: Focus on exterior facilities with warm and welcoming gardens for our 20-acre site. Jim Spannagel or call the parish office at 847- 541-7914
- Giving Tree Committee: Annual event providing needy children with gifts at Christmas, in conjunction with the food pantry. Parish Office 255-7452
- Greeters: All ages ~ Welcome all people entering church for Sunday Mass. Time commitment is 1-1/2 hrs per month. Parish Office 255-7452
- Kingdom Kids (formerly Kidsword): Preschool-3rd grade children attend Mass with their parents, but hear an age-appropriate Gospel messages & reflections at the 8:30am and 11:00 am Masses. Parish Office 255-7452
- Lectors: Confirmation and older ~ Proclaim the Holy Scripture and Mass intentions during Mass.Contact Parish Office 255-7452- Click HERE
- Liturgy Committee: Evaluate liturgies to make them relevant and significant, train ministers, prepare for the liturgical season and plan for special celebrations. Contact the Parish Office, 847-255-7452.
- Maintenance Committee: Provide time and talent through seasonal cleaning or light repairs using carpentry, plumbing, electrical or computer skills. Contact the Parish Office, 847-255-7452.
- Marriage Preparation: Assist couples who will marry at St. Alphonsus prepare for their marriage and life together. Parish Office, 255-7452
- Men's Club: To gather our men together in a Christian environment for the purpose of fellowship, friendship and fun. Brad Vallem, 577-9412 - Click HERE
- Ministry of Care: Minister to the sick in hospitals, nursing homes and private homes as well as providing transportation, and assistance with bereavement ministry. Alyce Gilarski, 255-7452, x 143 - Click HERE
- MUSIC MINISTRY: Share your musical talent in a choir or ensemble group at St. Alphonsus. We have many opportunities for you to join us. - Newcomers: Welcome all newcomers with a continental breakfast and informal introduction to St. Alphonsus Parish. Parish Office, 847-255-7452 - Click HERE
- PADS: Oct.-April Saturday evening to Sunday mornings are broken into multiple shifts to host pre-screened adults and children who are homeless; Public Action to Deliver Shelter Volunteers provide and serve a hot dinner, a safe place to sleep and a bag lunch for the following day. - Parent School Association: Promote relationship between school and family by sponsoring several fundraising and fun events. Funds help the school. Contact the St Alphonsus School 255-5538 - Click HERE
- Parish Pastoral Council: Council of parishioners who are the pastor's advisory council;, ages 15 and up, who are represent various aspects of the parish, school and community; how to best serve and respond to that call. Fr. Joseph N. Le, 255-7452 - Click HERE
- Prayer Circle: Phone chain activated when prayer needed in emergency or difficult situation. Diane Kachigan, 215-2548
- Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: Instruction for adults wanting to become Roman Catholic. Pam Platt, 847-463-6201 - Click HERE
- Rosary Devotion: All are welcome to join in praying the rosary on the 1st Saturday of each month at 7:45 a.m.; interested parties are invited to lead the rosary on a rotating basis. Deacon Steve Stecker
- Sacristans: Keep linens washed, the altar clean, candles trimmed, and attend to all the other less glorious but necessary needs of the church. Please call the Parish Office 255-7452.

- St. Alphonsus Catholic School: Preschool-8th grade. Strives to educate students for the future, preserve Christian values of our origin and prepare students for a life of service both inside the church and in the community at large. School Office 255-5538 - Click HERE
- Stations of the Cross: Devotion held on Fridays during Lent. Interested parties are invited to lead the stations. Parish Office 255-7452
- Stewardship: Encourage the Parish in a variety of ways to live a life of stewardship by committing time, talent and treasure as true Christian disciples. Parish Office, 255-7452 - Click HERE
- Summer Suppers: The PADS season is October - April; During the summer (months of May - September) we continue our outreach to our homeless/near homeless community through SUMMER SUPPERS here at Saint Alphonsus. Mark Naughton, 847-354-0660.
- Tidy-Up Team: Four crews of early risers, tidy the church every Monday morning by dusting, vacuuming and straightening the hymnals. Call Parish Office, 847-255-7452
- Tree of Life: For both people who have purchased a tree to commemorate or to celebrate the lives of parishioners/families. If you choose not to have a tree planted on our grounds but would like to purchase a brass leaf in the narthex for someone's honor, you are very welcome to do so for $50. - Totus Tuus / Vacation Bible School: Week long Catholic VBS/summer youth program dedicated to sharing the gospel, witness, Eucharistic worship and Marian devotion. Wendy Mattison, 255-7452
- Vegetable Garden: AKA: GARDEN OF EATIN' - All are welcome to grow vegetables and herbs on our parish land to be used for food pantry and area shelters. Shirley Runge, 224-805-3451
